Good Times In Quarantine Town

Phew! How is everyone holding up?

Okay- I will go first- I AM LOSING MY MIND.

I am not cut out for this teacher/parent combo. I love my children but man do I miss working in an office! My boys are off the walls with energy that they would usually let out playing with their friends. I guess when we took on the role of teacher, P.E. was included in that. It didn’t take me long to realize that my morning coffee was not going to be strong enough to get me through the day- Monsters for breakfast anyone?

When we realized that the Stay Home Quarantine initiative was going to last longer than the two weeks the school districts initially released; Jett and I went to work planning staycations and planning activities that would be all-day events, events to wear out the boys and keep them busy just long enough for mom and dad to have a 10-minute silent break. We wanted to have at least a little semblance to what we would be doing, pandemic aside. We needed some GOOD TIMES.

We planned two major events- one for spring break and one for a trip we usually would be taking the weeks before Rooney’s birthday.

For April’s Spring Break staycation, we went to Disneyland! Cruiz would watch his youtube faves create these hilarious skits of rides at Disneyland, their parents would spray them with water as they “rode” on Splash Mountain and spin them around on office chairs emulating the ever dizzying Teacup ride. He talked about it every day until finally, equipped with spray bottles, Mickey Mouse ice cream bars, and ALL of the stuffed animals and costumes we could find- we dug out our old Disney tickets and went to Disneyland’s Magical Backyard Kingdom. We rode rides (in laundry baskets), got initiated into the Jedi Training camp, starred in a parade, and ate corndogs, churros, and ice cream mickeys to our heart’s content.

Almost all of the rides are on youtube, and Xfinity has the Main Steet Electrical Parade as well Fantasmic! available for free. Trust me when I say, this was an all-day event.  We all slept well that night.  Overall it was an amazing experience for the kids to get out of their heads a little and just have fun.

We always take a camping trip at the beginning of May- this year’s trip was canceled so we did our best to also replicate that.  We went to the store and stocked up on the boy’s favorite camping snacks, packed a cooler and all of our camping gear into the back of my van, and took a drive into the country.  We ended up getting lost on a dirt road (which is always the best adventure) and found a pretty walking trail. When we finished the trail we piled back into the van, and drove to the best last-minute camping spot – under the willow tree in our backyard.

The boys went nuts with the marshmallows making master smores, stayed up way way WAY past bedtime, and crashed in the tent.  I am honestly surprised that Dash slept so well in the tent- I thought for sure he would wake up at least a dozen times.  He may have slept better out there than he does in his bed.

If this little “camping trip” did anything, it calmed my mama nerves about taking a three-year-old real-life camping. Eeeek! My baby is getting big!

I’ve posted our Disneyland day as well as our camping adventure to my “Our Adventures” highlight bubble on Instagram if you want to see how it all went down.  I will warn you though! I am in no way an iMovie expert! Hah!

I hope this gives you some fun ideas to keep your littles occupied in Quarantine Town! Let me know what other fun activities we should try!

We’re all just taking it one day at a time, growing up together, and hopefully inspiring people along the way.

xx

Nine years of loving you. Nine years of “who’s you Nine years of loving you. Nine years of “who’s your best friend?!” Nine years of watching you grow into a smart, kind, snarky, sourpatch little boy.

Happiest birthday middle little- HOW ARE YOU NINE?!

Anyone else feel this way on their kids birthdays? Anyone else feel this way on their kids birthdays?
Not sadness exactly… just a deep ache.
Like quick tears in the morning before the birthday festivities begin?

Meeting new versions of them is beautiful.
Letting go of the old ones hurts in a way I didn’t expect.
